In literal terms Chikitsa means treatment i.e. the manner in which the medicines are applied, what medicines are to be applied or consumed to establish harmony between the doshas and root out the disequilibrium between the factors responsible for the physiological functions of the body Panchakarma therapies are usually employed to eradicate the vitiated Doshas  and  aid  in  maintaining  the  equilibrium  of  these  Doshas,  which  is  the fundamental basis  of health.  Purva-karma is done by snehan and swedan under the supervision of an Ayurvedic therapist. In scheduled treatment, snehan is followed by swedan. This article gives an insight on bahir parimarjan chikitsa before shodhan karma.
