The article provides a brief historical event series of the formation of the modern appearance of higher veterinary education in Russia - in the Russian Empire and Soviet Russia. Some institutional measures for the formation of a higher school of veterinary medicine, which served as the basis for the subsequent development of veterinary medicine as a scientific direction, are considered.
