Exploring careers and deciding on a career path can be an intimidating activity. Withover 12,000 careers available to choose from, information can become overwhelming(Robinson, n.d.). Career assessment and counseling services can assist with accuratelyevaluating an individual’s interests, skills, work values, and temperaments in order toappropriately plan a long-term career pathway. There are many online tools available tothe general public to help with this process of information gathering, personal careerexploration, and self-discovery. The Career Index Plus, O*NET Online, andEducationPlanner are three specific online resources that can be beneficial to use whendelivering career assessment and counseling services. In reviewing these resources, conclusions can be drawn about the strengths and weaknesses of these tools, as well asaccessibility considerations and their application to career counseling.
