The increase in greenhouse gases emissions has incurred major concerns about the environment. As a result, important concepts have been developed to furnish possible measures to mitigate ecological impacts. A relevant example to be pointed out is the concept of eco-efficiency, which is usually evaluated through eco-indicators and represents a useful tool for the analysis of environmental impacts associated with the industry. In this concern, this work aims to evaluate, through eco-indicators, the CO2 emissions from two maleic anhydride production plants (via benzene and via n-butane) and compare their eco-efficiency, with basis on computational simulation. Hence, it will be possible to evaluate the suitability of eco-indicators for analyzing ecological effects of industrial plants.
