The analysis of the novels from Collection “Biblioteca das Moças” reveals how their narrative components reflected the aspirations of the Brazilian bourgeoisie of 1940-50. Published by the Companhia Editora Nacional in 1926, the Collection was one of the responsible for the growth of the publishing house, which held the primacy in the domestic market in the 40s. The choice of the “Biblioteca” held the titles of books demand for a specific audience, composed of girls and young women of the bourgeoisie; the representation of the ideal reader made by the publisher did not consider the public's expectations in the first place as it prioritized the responsible for heir social and educational training, such as family and school. The Collection, which formed the literary tastes of young people met the demand for edifying reading until the mid-50s; accordingly, the “Biblioteca das Moças” was also a control device of female behavior
