In the 1990s, McLuhan had already foreseen the educational changes that are being experienced nowadays, marking the distance between the speed of information and school learning. This era was characterized by the implanting of digital technologies which went on to play an influential role in education and in the manner of understanding space and time. The information previously provided by the mass media multiplied feverishly with the introduction of the Internet, which, in turn, represented a change in the cultural and educational scenario. This study discusses the meaning of the cultural changes brought about by the new information and communication technologies and the impact of these digital technologies on educational processes.Nos idos de 1990, McLuhan já previa as mudanças educacionais que estamos vivendo em nossos dias, sinalizando o descompasso entre a rapidez das informações e o aprendizado escolar. Esse período foi marcado pela forte inserção das tecnologias digitais que passaram a exercer um papel relevante na educação e na forma de compreensão do espaço e do tempo. As informações divulgadas anteriormente pelos meios de comunicação de massa multiplicaram-se em ritmo frenético com o advento da Internet, o que representou uma mudança no cenário cultural e educacional. O trabalho faz uma discussão sobre o significado das mudanças culturais provocadas pelas novas tecnologias de informação e de comunicação e o impacto dessas tecnologias digitais nos processos formativos
