In the context of the linguistic study of authentic documents, the present work deals with verbal forms in –rait in the language of law, more precisely in a normative legislative discourse. The aim of this study is to interrogate the syntactic configurations and the semantic uses of this form in a normative legal corpus, in this case the French Civil Code, and to study them at the intersection of syntax and semantics to see if the syntactic contexts of use of this verb form have consequences in the semantic uses which are examined.
