El marco de la "Última Cena" de Tiziano en El Escorial

El marco de la Última Cena de Tiziano, situada en las Salas Capitulares del Real Monasterio de San Lorenzo de El Escorial, es un ejemplo y resumen de las especiales características de la enmarcación española en el siglo XVII. Desde el impulso real al enmarcado -y a su posterior reenmarcado-; el ser exponente del cambio del gusto estético en el marco a partir de la segunda mitad del siglo; el empleo de artesanos de alta cualificación en su diseño y realización; su alta valoración desde el primer momento de su factura; todo ello hace de este marco un objeto artístico de primer orden. Si a ello sumamos que el cuadro sigue en el monasterio para el que fue pintado y que disponemos de la documentación de su fabricación, este marco se convierte en un objeto excepcional en la historia de la enmarcación en España.The frame of Titian’s Last Supper, which hangs on the walls of the Chapter House in San Lorenzo del Escorial Royal Monastery, illustrates the special characteristics of Spanish framing in the 17th century. Being promoted by the King himself both in the first place and when it was re-done, it shows the change in taste that affected the frame production in the second half of the 17th century. The involvement of highly qualified craftsmen in its design and the high esteem in which it was held from the moment of its production, make of this frame an artistic object of the first order. Taking into account that the picture continues to hang in the same monastery it was painted for and that the papers that document its production have been preserved, it can be stated that this frame is an exceptional source for the history of the frame in Spain
