Marginalized and newcomer populations face unique challenges to optimizing health. From poverty and experienced trauma, to language barriers, social isolation and systemic injustices, there are numerous determinants of health that these patients may bear. This artwork aims to represent the many faces of newcomer and marginalized Canadians and display factors that may prevent these populations from accessing healthcare. Just as the faces in this piece are left ambiguous, the stories of each patient are also unknown upon first encounter. While the barriers patients experience may not always be evident, assessing and acknowledging these challenges is crucial to helping patients meet their healthcare needs.
