Cover art by Ramona Neferu.  Description: The scene depicts various characters powering a complex system of contraptions by engaging in healthy habits and behaviours (exercise, cooking with whole foods, vaccinations, sun safety, screening, etc). The end result is good health through preventive medicine as depicted in the “Cup of Good Health”, and shows that preventive health equates to the additive and synergistic effects of multiple healthy habits by individuals and communities, as opposed to an unnecessary amount of medical involvement (or a supposedly magic pill or concoction) after a preventable condition occurs. The style of the piece was partially inspired by the Rube Goldberg machine, where a complicated chain reaction of events leads to a simple end goal. Although the message of Rube Goldberg machine depictions is generally that the system is over-engineered to complete a simple task, the aim of this cover art is to show that the seemingly overwhelming and complicated preventive medicine approach can be broken down into attainable habits and interventions in order to achieve benefit in the long run.
