This article mainly describes the basic theory of metaphor and metaphorical expressions associated with meat and meat products to compare the differences between Chinese and Russian cultures and languages. The purpose of the research is to analyze the semantics of figurative words and expressions motivated by the names of meat products in the cognitive aspect; comparison of synonymous figurative expressions of the Russian and Chineselanguages. To carry out the research, it is necessary to perform the following tasks:1. Describe the criteria for the selection and classification features of the figurative vocabulary of the Russian language;2. Identify figurative words and expressions based on the data of the dictionaries of the Russian and Chinese literary languages, metaphorically embodying the ideas of native speakers about food, motivated by the names of meat products, analyze the features of their semantics and textual implementation;3. Identify and describe the metaphorical models that go to the source sphere «Food» and are associated with the conceptual sphere «Man».The main method for solving the assigned tasks in the work was the method of systematic scientific description, including the techniques of continuous sampling, observation, classification, systematization, interpretation, component and context analysis, and scientific synthesis.The material we analyzed showed a variety of figurative units of different cultures, demonstrated that the traditions and culture of the people have a huge impact on the figurative nomination of certain objects, on our thought processes.
