In consonance with the contents of this dossier, this article seeks to relate debates about the nature, current state, and effects of populism ‒appealing both to classical visions and to more recent proposals‒with phenomena and processes that characterize Bolivian political reality in particular, and that of Latin America in general. In doing so, the article delves into the relationship between populism and democracy, discussing the relevance of whether or not to assign a populist character to the government headed by Evo Morales.
