In this article, on the basis of Russian archival documents taken from the archives of the Foreign Policy of Russia(AVPR), the Central State Archives(TSGA) of Kazakhstan and, first introduced in the scientific revolution, discusses the causes of "the ili crisis" in Russian-Chinese relations in the second half of XIX, the strategy and tactics followed by the figures of the Turkestan administration and the Asian Department of the MFA of Russia in relation to this event.
