A Survey of Scientific Publications in the Field of Anatomy Conducted in Turkey during 2000–2014

AMAÇ: Çalışmamızda, ülkemizde 2000 yılından bu yana Anatomi alanında yapılan\uduluslararası bilimsel yayınlara ilişkin verilerin ortaya konması amaçlandı.\udGEREÇ VE YÖNTEMLER: ISI Web of Science veri tabanında SCI (Science citation\udindex) ve SCI-E (Expanded) kapsamındaki dergilerde, içinde en az bir anatomi\uduzmanının bulunduğu, Türkiye adresli yayınlara ilişkin veriler tarandı. Zaman\uddilimi olarak 2000-2014 yılları esas alındı. Yıllara göre yayın sayıları, yayın sayılarındaki\udartış hızı, yayınların sınıflandırılması (makale, bildiri vb.), yayınların kategorisi,\udaldıkları atıf sayıları kaydedildi. Yayınların en fazla yer aldığı ilk 10 dergi ve\uden fazla yayın yapan 10 kurum belirlendi.\udBULGULAR: Anatomi alanında 2000 yılından bu yana, Türkiye adresli, yayınlanmış\ud1390 çalışmaya ulaşıldı. Yayınlardan 1273’i orijinal makale, 35’i konuşma\udmetni, 32’i bildiri özeti, 27 editöre mektup ve 23’ü derleme idi. Bu yayınlara ilişkin\ud2009 yılında belirgin şekilde artış gözlenirken, son yıllarda giderek azalma tespit\udedildi. Türkiye’de en çok yayın yapılan kategoriler ve en yüksek atıf sayıları sırasıyla;\udcerrahi anatomi, morfoloji ve sinir bilimleri kategorileriydi. Yayınların en fazla\udyer aldığı ilk üç dergi olarak; Surgical and Radiologic Anatomy, Saudi Medical\udJournal ve Clinical Anatomy bulundu. En fazla yayın yapan üniversiteler; Ankara\udÜniversitesi, Hacettepe Üniversitesi ve Ege Üniversitesi’ydi.\udSONUÇ: Çalışmamız, anatomistlerin hangi konulara daha çok yönlendikleri konusunda\udyol göstermektedir. Yapılan yayınların büyük bir kısmı, cerrahi anatomi,\udmorfoloji ve sinir bilimleri kategorilerindedir. Yayınların sayıdan çok kalitesi, takip\udedilirliği önemlidir. Yapılacak çalışmaların, multidisipliner, daha çok atıf alacak\udçalışmalar olmasına önem verilmelidir.OBJECTIVE: In our study, we aimed to reveal the data of the international scientific\udpublications in the field of anatomy recorded in our country since 2000.\udMATERIALS AND METHODS: The data at the Turkey-based publications,\udwhich have at least one anatomy specialist identified and have been published\udin journals at the ISI Web of Science database and covered by the Science Citation\udIndex (SCI) and SCI-E (Expanded), were screened. The time period for the\udstudy was between the years 2000 and 2014. Number of publications by year,\udrate of increase in the number of publications, classification of broadcast (articles,\udpapers, etc.), category of publications, and their citation rates were recorded.\udWe evaluated the top 10 journals which have the most comprising publications\udand the top 10 universities which facilitated these publications.\udRESULTS: Since 2000, we reached a total of 1390 publications in the field of\udanatomy. These publications comprised of 1273 original articles, 35 meeting\udpresentations, 32 abstracts, 27 letters to the editor, and 23 compilations. With respect\udto the number of publications, there is a gradual decrease in recent years,\uddespite a significant increase observed in the year 2009. In Turkey, the most\udpublished and cited categories are surgical anatomy, morphology, and neuroscience.\udThe top three journals with the highest number of publications are\udSurgical and Radiologic Anatomy, Saudi Medical Journal, and Clinical Anatomy.\udThe top three publishing institutions are Ankara University, Hacettepe University,\udand Ege University.\udCONCLUSION: Our study provides us an understanding of the topics anatomists\udhave favored to study in recent years. A large number of published research\udarticles are about surgical anatomy, morphology, and neuroscience.\udObviously, the quality of publications and their number of citations are more\udimportant than their scalar quantity. We believe that future studies should focus\udon the multidisciplinary areas with more citation prospects
