Spent fluid catalytic cracking (sFCC) catalyst from the Dung Quat refinery has been studied as an active aluminosilicate additive to Portland cement. The experimental results showed that the heat-treated sFCC materials have high lime absorption capacity in accordance with Vietnamese Standard TCVN 3735:1982 ( 100 mg CaO g-1). The Portland blended cement products prepared by blending pure Portland cement PC40 with 10-20 wt-% of sFCC materials achieve good 28-day compressive strength (R28 50 N mm-2), the compressive strength ratio indexes (IR) of sFCC additives meet TCVN 6882:2016’s requirements (IR 75%). The other physico-mechanical properties such as initial setting time, final setting time, volume stability also meet requirements in TCVN 6260:2009 about Portland blended cement - Specifications. Hence, the spent FCC catalyst from Dung Quat refinery is expected to effectively reuse as an active additive to Portland cement in appropriate experimental conditions (10-20 wt-% sFCC heat-treated at 600 oC in Portland cement blended).
