The article touches upon the concept of “pragmatic text” and its role inthe methodology of teaching foreign languages. The peculiarities of pragmatictexts are studied, identifying their communicative and sociocultural value. It ishighlighted that the mastering of pragmatic texts prepares students for solvingreal communication problems when they are in the country of the targetlanguage and need to use information received in auditory or printed forms. Thearticle illustrates the types of pragmatic texts according to their externaldescriptive features, communicative purpose and area of application. Referenceis made to the methodological approaches that allow using pragmatic texts in theprocess of teaching a foreign language. Exercises based on pragmatic texts arepresented, aimed at developing different language skills. The author comes tothe conclusion that incorporating pragmatic texts into the teaching process cancontribute to the development of students’ foreign language communicativecompetence.
