Most of the population in India lives in rural settings. There are roughly six lacs and thirtyeight thousands villages where employment could not be generated due to non utilization of natural resources. As most of the population depends on agriculture, the tendency of unemployment is mostly visible.Viewing the problem of unemployment andlack of basic facilities for a common folk, the Goverment of India launched a scheme on 2nd February, 2006 from Anantpur District in Andhra Pradesh, which can provide limited employment. The scheme was named as Mahatma Gandhi National employment Guarentee Scheme (MNREGA). Under this scheme more than 5 lacs people getemployment. In the present communiation an attempt has been made to analyse the contribution of MNREGA scheme in employment generation in Rudrpur development Block in District Udhamsinghnagar in Uttarakhand.
