We present the results of multicolor (U BV R C I C JHK) photometry and low resolution spectroscopy of the poorly studiedpost-AGB candidate IRAS 02143+5852. A Cepheid-like brightness variability with the pulsation period of about 24.8 daysand the full peak-to-peak amplitude of 0.9 mag in the V -band was found. The spectral type varies from F3I at maximumto F8I at minimum light. A strong Hα emission line appears on the ascending branch of the light curve. Unlike typicalW Vir variables, IRAS 02143+5852 has a signicant infrared excess of radiation associated with the presence of a heavydust envelope around the star. We computed a dust shell model to obtain the parameters of the envelope.
