This Paper presents a novel approach to the detection of the malicious users through packet sniffing using the tool named 'Snort'. It’s used for tracking the unintended malicious activities and prevent the particular user from accessing the particular website again, how to track a person activity and block the malicious sites, that are or can promote the usage of the piracy of the data. It covers an easier and cost friendly approach, that can be applied on a small network, that cannot have the funds to include a hardware firewall in their network. Users accessing the internet, (that are connected on the network, in which our application is applied) are monitored, such that if he/she accesses a malicious website, will be tracked and a log will be created, which will be given to the network admin. If user continues to use the website, he/she will be blocked from the network, and he will be not allowed to access the network. Experiments done on a benign network, showed that user accessing the inaccessible websites, are kept in track and are blocked from the network with a particular warning message. The Log is generated on the admin system, showing the system IP, URL, PC number, date and time of the user accessing the site. This Project can help the small-scale networks, and can replace the hardware firewalls. This can help the startups on focusing the aspects of the business, and can help reducing the expenditure for the company.
