The Review of Literature is the preliminary and foremost work for conducting detailed research in a particular field. It enables the researcher scholar to become a skillful person in his/her research work. It offers a strong foundation of knowledge in that research field. It gives the summary of the already available literature available in the specific area of research. Plants are the natural units for producing chemical compounds. They are used in therapy for diseases. Most of them are used as herbal medicines. The medicinal value of plants deceits in their chemical constituents. The most important bioactive compounds of plants include flavonoids, tannins, alkaloids, and phenolic compounds. Most of the medicinal plants are specifically having high medical factors which are useful for human beings and animals for their well-being. Nigella sativa Linn. (Family Ranunculaceae), commonly known as black cumin, is an annual plant that has been widely used as medicinal plant in our country and also throughout the globe. In this Review, recently conducted scientifically significant and medically important researches on the Phytochemical screening, Nutritional composition, anti-bacterial, anti-oxidant and anti-diabetic activities of Nigella sativa are presented.
