The article examines the concepts of a gifted schoolchild, of conditioned and unconditioned educational space, and shows the correlation between these concepts. Special attention is paid to the transformation of contemporary school environment. The features of educational process are distinguished that mark the so-called "schools of the future", which have been opened in Russia in the last decade. The study of several school cases enables to draw conclusions about the characteristic changes of modern schools, as well as about the presence of a strong tendency to organize educational activities in line with the educators’ understanding of what the school will be like in the future.
