The paper raises the problem of the content and direction of the Russian educational policy regarding schoolchildren’s identity formation. The quality of identity is considered as a special determinacy of the individual’s relationship with other people and with social subjects. Two theoretical paradigms of human identity are distinguished in the paper and the basic characteristics of these paradigms are defined. The content analysis of the Russian Federal Public Educational Standards (FGOS) is performed in order to reveal the direction of identities formation that these standards entail. It is shown that modern Russian educational policy requests only one kind of identity, viz. the formation of a functionally acting member of society. The direct and the probable consequences of such policy are indicated in the article.
