At a time when we are facing various meteorological disasters on a daily basis and when their effects are already noticeably affecting economic development, the action to mitigate them becomes a major topic and the backbone of many countries' strategic planning. As increasing the use of renewable energy sources is one of the main mechanisms in this action, the analyses of the possibilities of applying the available technical achievements, which could further increase the utilization potential of these energy sources, represent not only a need but also a professional duty. Because of that, and since Serbia possesses large quantities of so-called low temperature thermal energy which cannot be converted into electricity in the conventional manner by means of water-steam plants according to Rankine-Claus cycle, in this paper attention is paid to the operation of so-called power plants which can do so and which operate according to the so called Organic Rankine and Kalina cycle. In addition to the presented modes, a thermodynamic analysis of their operation was performed and their potential for application was compared and analysed through a display of changes in the rate of efficiency.
