The article considers state interests as a category of the science of the theory of state and law and analyzes its definitions provided in the scientific literature. We propose to distinguish between the terms “national interests” and “state interests”, despite the fact that they often denote the same phenomenon, we argue that the term “state interests” is more accurate from the standpoint of terminology. We give our own definition of state interests and highlight their features (attribution of state power, concreteness, fragmentary or abstract formalization, dynamism and variability).
