The article is devoted to the topical problem of differentiating operational-search and security measures carried out by operational officers of the penal system in correctional institutions. The criteria for their differentiation are the focus on solving regime or operational tasks, the presence of grounds for conducting operational-search measures as well as the public or private nature of their implementation. The author comes to the conclusion that such a distinction is necessary in order to prevent the possible loss of evidence obtained as a result of operational-search activities in the course of criminal proceedings.
