The article summarizes the theoretical positions of the essence of the concept of «professional competence». The structural components of professional competence are determined and analyzed. The author summarizes the experience of organizing and conducting pedagogical practice in a higher school on the basis of a competent approach (on the example of DVNZ «Pereyaslav-Khmelnitsky State Pedagogical University named after Gregory Skovoroda»). .It is noted that properly organized pedagogical practice, provided that it is directly related to the theory, is one of the main ways of improving the professional training of pedagogical staff.
