Статья посвящена исследованию предпосылок и движущих сил Каирскогопожара, или «Черной субботы» – масштабных массовых беспорядков, произошедшихв столице Египта 26 января 1952 г. Беспорядки обернулись причинением значитель-ного материального ущерба европейской собственности в городе и стали прологомреволюции 1952 г. Автор исследует аргументы представленных в историографиитеорий: о спровоцированности беспорядков извне; об их организации националисти-ческими движениями; о стихийности беспорядков и их социальной сущности. The article is devoted to the study of the prerequisites and driving forces of the Cairo fi re or «BlackSaturday», large-scale mass riots that took place in the Egyptian capital on January 26, 1952. The riots resulted insignifi cant material damage to European property in the city and became the prologue to the 1952 revolution. Theauthor examines the arguments of the theories that are presented in the historiography: provoking riots from theoutside; their organization by nationalist movements; spontaneity of riots and their social essence.
