Resumo: Após uma Introdução, na qual lembra o fato de que dissensões ecismas sempre houve na História da Igreja, o autor situa o Concílio de Trento ea reforma católica, chamada às vezes de “contra-reforma” no contexto da primeirametade do século XVI, como resposta da Igreja de Roma ao movimentode Lutero. Aborda a seguir esse Concílio nas três fases de seu desenvolvimento,desde 1545 até 1563, apontando os temas tratados e as decisões tomadas. Econclui refletindo sobre o significado desse grande evento eclesial, suas luzese sombras, e sua evolução até o Vaticano II.Palavras-chave: Concílio de Trento. Lutero. Reforma. Contra-reforma.Abstract: After an Introduction, in which he recalls the fact that dissensions andschisms there have always been in the history of the Church, the author situatesthe Council of Trento and the Catholic reformation, sometimes called “counterreformation”,in the context of the first half of the 16th century, as the answer ofthe Church of Rome to Luther’s movement. Then he approaches this Council inthe three phases of its development, from 1545 to 1563, pointing to the themesthat were treated and the decisions taken. And he concludes reflecting on themeaning of this big ecclesial event, its lights and shadows, and its evolutionuntil the Vatican II.Keywords: Council of Trento. Luther. Reformation.
