An inexpensive tube sampler con‐structed from readily available parts is described which permits vertically integrated zooplankton samples to be rapidly obtained in lakes. The tube sampler provides population estimates that are quantitatively comparable to those obtained with much greater effort from contiguous Schindler‐Patalas trap samples. Routine use of this tube sampler should facilitate the collection of precise and accurate population data upon which to base our understanding of zooplankton population dynamics and the role of zooplankton in aquatic ecosystems.
