A shipboard HPLC system is described which can provide quantitative determinations of chlorophylls a, b, c and their degradation products. The technique is rapid (<20 min), precise, and can detect chlorophyll a concentrations as low as 13 pg per injection. Representative field data from the Southern Ocean are presented and briefly discussed.
