One subset of a series of identical fouling panels was observed by a nondestructive sampling technique and results were compared with those from a second subset of panels which was destructively sampled. Initially there was no evidence for differences in development of organisms on the panels between sampling techniques. However, later results indicated that treatment effects associated with handling the nondestructively sampled panels could influence panel development.
