A Lagrangian tracer has been developed for offshore surface current studies which responds to flow in the uppermost meter of the water column. The tracer emits dye to aid in visual sighting and is equipped with a radio beacon which permits relocation for several days by aircraft. The tracers can be deployed by aircraft or by surface vessels, and once deployed exhibit minimal windage.
