The criteria for the initiation ofmotion for organic detrital sediments appear to follow the same Shields relationship as sand and other uniform inorganic sediments. The salt marsh tidal creek samples tested include mud particles and stem, leaf, and root fragments of marsh grasses. The measurement of particle diameter is replaced with an equivalent diameter determined from fall velocity and density.
