The sampling efficiencies of a 0.1‐m 2 Smith‐McIntyre grab and a deep‐sea, anchor‐box dredge were compared by determining estimates of faunal density and composition. The two samplers did not differ significantly in their description of the relative abundance of the fauna, but the grab sampler gave estimates of faunal density five times as large as the anchor‐box dredge.
