A warm, saline plume sinks, upon entering Seneca Lake, to just above the thermocline, 15 to 25 m deep. At that depth, based on vertical soundings of temperature and conductivity, the plume spreads radially, maintaining a distinct identity for 150–200 m. Temperature measurements alone suggest that the plume retains its identity to a distance of 1 km from its origin.
