A. technique enabling qualitative identification of clay mineral species commonly found in marine environments, on a particle‐by‐particle basis, permits electron microscopic and X‐ray analysis examination of specific clay particles, without affecting either their morphology or association, on membrane ultrafilters containing as little as 0.2 mg of particulate matter.
