Two suction‐corers for use in shallow water estuarine areas penetrated to a depth of 20– 30 cm in substrates ranging from silt to gravel, taking samples of about 30 liters in volume and 0.1 m 2 in area. The manually reversing model is limited to a maximum water depth of 3.5 m, but the automatically reversing instrument samples at depths limited only by the length of the hose used to evacuate the chamber.
