Current‐enhanced uptake of radiocarbon by Mastigocladus laminosus Cohn was demonstrated in a laboratory stream using in situ (current flow at 40 cm sec −1 vs. 1–3 cm sec −1 ) and in vitro (incubation in a vial) techniques. Isotope profiles through in situ cores showed high surface incorporation. Measurements made using the in vitro technique of incubation approached results obtained under natural flow, but may be an artifact of the technique.
