A pumping system has been constructed from commercially available components that samples from three depths simultaneously at minimum rates of 624 liters hr −1 from 3,000 and maximum rates of 1,200 liters hr −1 from 30 m. A single line system consists of a length of polyethylene tubing extending to the sampling depth and secured to the coring cable, a submersible pump connected to the polyethylene tubing 20–50 m from the surface, and another polyethylene tubing line connected to the pump outlet and extending to the ship’s deck.
