Dissolved fatty acids and natural lipid material containing these acids are removed from seawater by certain filters commonly used to separate dissolved from particulate organic matter. Whatman 54 filter paper was the least retentive of the filters tested and is recommended for the isolation of dissolved lipids in seawater.
