The feasibility of using dye, continuously injected below the water surface, for flow visualization is assessed. Qualitative assessment of ambient turbulence can be made, and with refinements in technique, quantitative assessments will be obtainable. The thermocline structure can be studied by this approach, and it may be the only approach that will lead to an understanding of certain phenomena occurring in this region.
