The spicular skeletons of acantharians dissolve readily in formalin‐seawater fixative solutions at pH levels of 3, 7, and 8.2. This dissolution has been checked by adding SrCl 2 · 6H 2 O to the fixative to increase the concentration of strontium to 10 times the normal seawater level of 8 mg/liter.
