Calanus helgolandicus was raised from early nauplius to copepodite stage IV on different concentrations of two food organisms at two temperatures. The dry weights of the resulting C IV individuals were directly correlated with the concentration of food available during growth and were not significantly affected by temperature. The gross efficiency of growth was inversely related to the total amount of food ingested during development. Calanus can apparently grow with high efficiency at natural concentrations of food.
