Diffusion in the ocean can be studied by aerial photography of dye patches. The dye concentration can be quantitatively determined from the photographic negative with a photodensitometcr. Two experiments in Long Island Sound showed that the dye concentrations determined by this method agreed with those measured by a shipborne fluorometer.
