During 1961 and 1962 regular sampling for chlorophyll a , particulate organic carbon and nutrients was carried out in the northern North Sea. The regressions of chlorophyll a on carbon were all significant and show maximum values for the ratio, chlorophyll a : carbon in spring and autumn. There is evidence that the changes in this ratio can be related to incident radiation and nutrient concentration.
