Some physiological experiments have been performed on some marine nematodes from a soft‐bottom community where they are numerically the most abundant group of the meiofauna. They appear to account for a quarter to a third of the biological activity in such a bottom. Different types of the same size show a three times variation in rate of O 2 uptake. A correlation seems to exist between respiration rate and feeding type.
