Echocardiography is a cheap and non-invasive technique for the investigation of cardiac diseases with reliable levels of accuracy. Echocardiography services commenced in the Cardiac unit of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) in April 2000. There is a need to establish an accurate pattern of cardiac diseases seen in the centre based on echocardiography assessment. The aim of the study was to review the pattern of cardiac diseases diagnosed by echocardiography in the cardiology unit of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching hospital.
