While in the past the researchers of migration had focused mainly on male migrants and their experiences, we are today seeing and increase in the research interest related to women migrants. This imbalanced approach undermines the view of migration as gendered process. Migration brings major life changes and challenges, which men and women experience differently regardless of time period. The article attempts to find and answer to the questions of why female migration experience have been traditionally ignored or stereotyped, and why we are talking about a feminization of migration in the present. Furthermore, the text introduces a female as an active subject in the migration process, one who takes responsibility and control over her life through conscious decision
