The article presents informal learning in study circles, organized for gifted pupils in primary schools. The principles underlying the concept of study circles (learners' participation in the selection of the contents and organization of work and learning, identification and realization of educational and action plans, etc.) form a solid basis for work with the children who wish to be more active and to take self-initiative in their learning. Study circles, which incorporate democratic learning principles, are a welcome way of learning. They supplement the mandatory primary school curricula and motivate learners in their quest of knowledge, which they are willing to share in study circles at school and in the wider community
