Purpose: The aim of this study is to report outcomes of surgery for posterior polar cataract using torsional ultrasound.\udMaterial and Method: Medical records of 26 eyes of 21 consecutive patients with posterior polar cataract who had cataract surgery\udusing the torsional phacoemulsification were evaluated retrospectively. The surgical procedure used, phacoemulsification parameters,\udintraoperative complications, and postoperative visual outcome were recorded.\udResults: Of the 26 eyes, 24 (92.3%) had small to medium posterior polar opacity. Two eyes had large opacity. All surgeries were\udperformed using the torsional handpiece. Posterior capsule rupture occurred in 4 (15.3%) eyes. The mean visual acuity improved\udsignificantly after surgery (p<0.001). The postoperative visual acuity was worse than 20/20 in 5 eyes. The cause of the low acuity was\udamblyopia.\udDiscussion: Successful surgical results and good visual outcome can be achieved with phacoemulsification using the torsional handpiece.\ud(Turk J Ophthalmol 2013; 43: 345-7)\u
